आसीत् पुरा कोऽपि महातपा नाम वनवासी मुनि:। आसीत् - there was पुरा=in olden days कोऽपि=कः+अपि=someone महातपा नाम=called Mahatapa वनवासी=forest dwelling मुनि=sage. There was once a sage called Mahatapa. एकदा एकदा=once यदा यदा=when स स=he तरुच्छायोपविष्ट तरुच्छायोपविष्ट=तरुः+छाया+उपविष्ट=sitting in the shadow of a tree आसीत् आसीत्=was । तदा तदा=then तस्योपरि तस्योपरि=तस्य+उपरि तस्य=its उपरि=above एका एका=one बलाका बलाका=crane विष्ठाम् विष्ठाम्=excrement उदसृजत् । उदसृजत्=dropped स स=he च च=and क्रुद्धस्तां क्रुद्धस्तां=क्रुद्धः+ताम् क्रुद्धः=enraged,angry, ताम्=him व्यलोकयत् । व्यलोकयत्=वि+अवलोकयत् अवलोकयत्=he saw दृष्टमात्रा  दृष्टमात्रा=just seen एव एव=only बलाका बलाका=crane भस्मसाद् भस्म=ash भस्मसाद्=into ashes अभवत् । अभवत्=he/she/it became ततश्च  ततश्च=ततः+च ततः=therefore, च=and स

सुभाषितानि

मार्गारब्धा: मार्ग+आरब्धाः having begun in the path सर्वयत्ना फलन्ति सर्वयत्ना=all efforts, फलन्ति=will be successful ।  पृथिव्यां पृथिव्यां=on earth त्रीणि त्रीणि=three रत्नानि रत्नानि= gems जलमन्नं जलमन्नं=जलम्+अन्नम् जलम्=water, अन्नम्=rice सुभाषितम् सुभाषितम्=maxim ।   मूढै: मूढै:= by fools पाषाणखण्डेषु पाषाणखण्डेषु=in stones रत्नसंज्ञा रत्नसंज्ञा=gem name विधीयते विधीयते=is given/is done ॥ 1॥  On earth, there are only three gems - water, rice and subhashita.
