Hunter and pigeons

 गोदावरीतीरे विशालः शाल्मलीतरुः   आसीत् । In the banks of river Godavari, there was a huge silk cotton tree.

 तत्र पक्षिणः निवसन्ति स्म । There birds were living.

अथ कदाचित् रात्रौ कश्चिद् व्याध​: तत्र तण्डुलान् विकीर्य जालं च विस्तीर्य प्रच्छन्नो भूत्वा स्थितश्च​। Then one night, some hunter spread rice grains there and put a net and hid and sat there.

प्रातःकाले चित्रग्रीव नाम कपोतराजः सपरिवार​: आकाशादेव तान् तण्डुलकणान् अपश्यत्। In the morning, king of pigeons called Chitragreeva with his flock saw the rice grains from sky only.

 ततः कपोतराजः ताण्डूललुब्धान् कपोतान् प्रत्याह​। Then the king of pigeons tried to ward off the rice-greedy pigeons. 

"कुतोत्र निर्जनवने तण्डुलकणान् स्म्भवः। Where will rice grains come from in this lonely forest?

भद्रमिदं न पश्यामि। I don't see good in this.

सम्भवतः कोपि व्याधः अत्र भवेत्। Probably some hunter is here.

सर्वथा अविचारितं कर्म् न कर्तव्यम्" | Definitely we should not do something without thinking.

परं तस्य वचनं तिरस्कृत्य कश्चित् तरुणः कपोतः सदर्पमाह आः। But some young pigeons rejected his words and with pride came down to ground.

किमेवमुच्यते
       वृद्धानां वचनं ग्राह्यमापत्काले ह्युपरिस्थिते ।
       सर्वत्रैवं विचारेण भोजनेऽप्यप्रवर्तनम् ॥

There is a saying 

     Listen to elderly in difficult situations. Even when eating, one should think in all respects. 

एतदाकर्ण्य सर्वे कपोताः तत्र उपविष्टा: जाले च निबद्धाः अभवन्। Having heard this, all pigeons were caught in the net which was spread there.

यतो हि बहुश्रुताः अपि लोभमोहिताः क्लिश्यन्ते। Like this, people get in trouble even after hearing all advice due to greed.
